Attempting to curb the spread of extremist thought online and through social media, Google’s think tank Jigsaw is developing programs that actively divert users away from groups promoting terror.
Using a Redirect Method, Jigsaw (formerly known as Google Ideas), will target users searching for terms associated with ISIS supporters and fascists, and rather than link them to the relevant forums, will instead divert them to advertisements on YouTube channels containing anti-terrorist and anti-fascist messages. According to a report from Wired.com, the aim is to counter extremist messages getting through to vulnerable minds. It uses videos that Jigsaw believes can successfully undo the effects of ISIS brainwashing, for example, and includes testimonial clips from reformed extremists and imams denouncing ISIS’s corruption of Islam.
Also joining the battle against ISIS is high profile human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, (George Clooney’s wife) who is planning to take the terror group to court for crimes against humanity. Clooney is also representing client Nadia Murad, a Syrian Yazidi, who was 19 years old when she was captured by ISIS and kept as a sex slave. "I think the international community should be ashamed that they haven't done more for the Yazidis," Clooney stated in a report posted by 9news.com.au, and she is now working with Murad to try and ensure jihadi fighters can be tracked down and held accountable in a courtroom.

This, of course, comes after the call by ISIS to “lone wolf” followers to stab, shoot, poison and run over Australians at iconic attractions including Bondi Beach, the SCG and MCG, and the Opera House following the death in Syria of convicted Australian terrorist Ezzit Raad. According to a Sydney Morning Herald report, global experts have stated that as ISIS loses territory in Iraq and Syria, it will lash out through attacks on western countries.
